“When Angels Paint” by Mara Purl
Can an artist’s imagination alter reality? Can something in the heart manifest in the real world? Artist Miranda Jones might have agreed that dreams sometimes come true. But she’d never presume to believe something could leap from her canvas into the life of someone she hardly knows.
Until now, that is.
Over-scheduled during the busy holiday season, she none the less can’t help bu follow the imperative to paint an unlikely image on one of her small gift canvases. Little could she have imagined the event she depicts is actually taking place even as paints, nor that the element she’s guided to add to the image might be the very thing that saves a life. Is she painting on her own? Or might an angel be guiding her hand? What will become of the painting? Will the person apparently rescued by it ever know about his benefactor? Even if he sees it, will he believe what he sees?
Though the story stands alone, it also extends the Milford-Haven Holiday Stories, part of the Milford-Haven Saga, the critically acclaimed, best-selling, multiple-award-winning series. Based on Purl’s BBC Radio drama Milford-Haven U.S.A.

National Listening Day
Mara’s newest book, When the Heart Listens, launches nationally on National Listening Day!
Can the heart be telling us something we can’t quite hear?
Landscape artist Miranda Jones thought she was on track. Yet something feels off kilter. The subjects of her work all live in nature, yet she herself lives in the city. Her rep and her family emphasize money as the benchmark of success, yet her own goals have to do with the professional challenges of excellence, adventure, and authenticity. She plans a brief trip to join plein air artists in the Carrizo Plain to paint this year’s extraordinary super bloom. Yet what she experiences is a journey that opens a chapter into a new life. At least it will, if she considers what might happen . . . when the heart listens.
Though the story stands alone, it also extends the Milford-Haven Stories, part of the Milford-Haven Saga, the critically acclaimed, best-selling, multiple-award-winning series. Based on Purl’s BBC Radio drama Milford-Haven U.S.A.
“What the Soul Suspects”
National Paranormal Day
Can a soul hover after passing on? Can a person be unaware of her own death? Journalist Christine Christian had always been a pragmatist. Not even her own persistent intuitions could compete with her commitment to logic and to empirical proof. In fact, that’s what had gotten her into to trouble in the first place. Of course, that very quality had also gotten her “the story” time and again, making her an award-winning reporter, a freelancer who’d managed to write her way into a respected series of television reports acclaimed by her peers and watched by millions of dedicated viewers. She always knew it was risky to ignore those pesky “feelings” of her. She ignored them one time too many. Or did she? Is it rally too late to reverse her decision? Can she at least warn others? Come hell or high water—and it looks like she’s facing down both—she’s still determined to finish her story, even if there’s only one person left who can hear what she has to say—investigator Senior Deputy Delmar Johnson. Will he listen? Will he allow his own thinking to exceed the bounds of reality as he’s always known it? Will he help Chris prove there’s more to life than what meets the eye? Though the story stands alone, it also extends the Milford-Haven Stories, part of the Milford-Haven Saga, the critically acclaimed, best-selling, multiple-award-winning series.
