Dear Friends,
This year – still a full year away from officially opening the doors of the Colorado Festival of World Theatre – we had the great good fortune to receive our very first education funding.
The H.A. and Mary K. Chapman Charitable Trust will now and always be the organization that helped us offer an educational outreach program during the initial phases of our development.
Education has been dear to our hearts and at the core of our values since the Festival’s inception. What did we want to do first? Provide opportunities for local youth who would become our very first Apprentices.
To create our program – we called upon colleagues and found great generosity of spirit among other theatre professionals willing to share their wisdom as part of our inaugural program.
To find our apprentices – we worked with local arts organizations, schools and families in Colorado Springs and Woodland Park and located a splendid group of students willing to embark with us on this first educational adventure.
What did we ask of them? Focus, commitment, and many hours of hard work backstage at every one of our performances.
What did we offer them? First, the kind of hands-on experience with theatre professionals that changes lives. Second, the kind of professional seminars they could only find by attending drama programs in the great theatre centers of the world.
Our thanks to the Chapman Trust will be a song repeated throughout the history of the Festival. Our thanks to this year’s seminar presenters will be the building blocks demonstrating our serious intent to educate and uplift apprentices and audiences alike. Our gratitude to our first apprentices will become a permanent part of our legacy. And the forging of our commitment to education has now begun in earnest.
Do you know young people interested in the theatre? We are here for them. And with supporting partners such as yourselves, there is no limit to what we can achieve together.
